June Goals: How Did You Do this Month?

(1) Read my attachment parenting book and choose the first things I want to try as a way of strengthening my relationship with my son.

I'm thinking about August for this goal. Because it would be a great partner for my homeschool planning, I think. Certainly didn't happen this month! :)

(2) Create 5 or 6 healthier meals and try each one, spending the time with my son cooking them. My goal in general is to cook at least one meal together each day and I am sort of weaving these two goals together.

I feel good about what I did with this goal! And this week was no different. Now, there is still room for improvement, but what I am pleased with is that I kept at it and made progress.

(3) Order the Vivid Rich Autumn color palette and create a capsule wardrobe that includes vivid autumn colors and incorporates what I am learning in my Fashion Feng Shui class.

Though I am still working on this one, I feel good about the progress I made this month and am looking forward to continuing with it.

So I feel good about this month overall!

How did your month go?

Warm Autumn:“This woman never pretends. She won’t say something just to flatter you unless she believes it to be true. She cries harder than anyone at a funeral. She is fiercely loyal to her family but will not spare them hard work or spoil them with extravagance. She may seem to absorb a lot of demands but when she draws the line at enough, everyone knows it.” ~~Christine Scaman, 12 Blueprints

Deep Autumn:"Sensible and straightforward as all Autumns, but direct in speech, and quick to absorb change with good evidence, they speak honestly and bluntly. What I love most, I believe, is that they are not one bit threatened or defensive about new ideas. The person may demonstrate more of Winter’s reserve, or more of Autumn’s passive and natural way, but there is always an element of fire." ~~Christine Scaman, 12 Blueprints

My Birthday Extravaganza

This year, I spent well over a week celebrating my birthday!! I have decided to make it a banner year in a number of ways. A renaissance year, really. And I have a sense that it's going to be good! So I felt like celebrating.

However, for a few days there, life took a challenging turn. During the weekend of my birthday, I didn't feel so good! I am highly sensitive and one of the things I am allergic to, oddly enough, is plastic. And apparently, somehow, one day I overdid it with these smelly plastic containers I got in the mail (not knowing they would be a problem) and the next day, I was allergy-and-sinus sick.

I said, "what's the BIG IDEA????"

But then decided to stay as positive as I could (even while sulking :). And then, as soon as I felt better, I went right back to celebrating. And what doesn't kill you makes you stronger! I came out of that weekend with several new insights. And every moment of celebration was precious. Plus, I took pics...

Can you guess where these next pictures were taken? Hint: two places in the same mall...

I am linking up today with Nina from Momma Go Round for Real Momma, Real Style, if she does it this week, to Nicole at MomTrends for this week's Monday Mingle and to Not Dead, Yet Style for Visible Monday. On Wednesday, I will link up with Lindsey at The Pleated Poppy for What I Wore Wednesday, Melaina at Transatlantic Blonde for What I Wore Wednesday and A Stylish Little Lady for Life Lately (if she has it this Wed.).

June Goals: How Did You Do this Week?

(1) Read my attachment parenting book and choose the first things I want to try as a way of strengthening my relationship with my son.

Nothing new here this week! I may end up carrying this one over to next month.

(2) Create 5 or 6 healthier meals and try each one, spending the time with my son cooking them. My goal in general is to cook at least one meal together each day and I am sort of weaving these two goals together.

This goal is still going well, although I did do some celebrating this week as part of my birthday extravaganza. Pictures to come in Monday's post!

(3) Order the Vivid Rich Autumn color palette and create a capsule wardrobe that includes vivid autumn colors and incorporates what I am learning in my Fashion Feng Shui class.

This is going well, too! I have been working on the capsule wardrobe, and still am, and I finally got my color fan in this past week (actually I got two). I bought the 2nd one (the one on the right) just to compare the two. They are both basically clear autumn fans, but the one on the left is personalized to my coloring & the one on the right is a generic clear autumn fan. I wanted to see how close the colors would be. Pretty darn close, huh?

How was your week?

For the Love of Orange

Orange Makeup

Here are great makeup tips for women of color, like me, who love orange...

One thing she says in the video is that women with darker skin may need brighter versions of orange lipstick than they think they will need. The one she used on the model was awfully bright, and I thought it might be too bright until I saw it on her.

I looked for some pics of me wearing orange makeup and I have to confess that on all the ones I found, I applied it with a lighter touch, and blended well, so it isn't as clear as hers is. But still, here they are. Gotta love the orange! :)

Orange Outfits

Here are some outfit ideas using orange and red-orange...

Ideal Capsule Wardrobe

I called it ideal because I love those colors so much! When's the last time you wore something orange?

(By the way, my birthday was this past weekend, and there will be pics. Stay tuned for next week's post!)

June Goals Update: The Birthday Edition

(1) Read my attachment parenting book and choose the first things I want to try as a way of strengthening my relationship with my son.

Hmm. I have been putting this one off. I've been journaling and reading other things, instead. I will have to try to get to this next week...

(2) Create 5 or 6 healthier meals and try each one, spending the time with my son cooking them. My goal in general is to cook at least one meal together each day and I am sort of weaving these two goals together.

We are doing very well with this one. I do need to admit to one McDonald's drive-thru incident but the rest of the meals were better and we cooked them together!

Got to admit, though, that I am giving myself permission to break all the rules this weekend, because tomorrow is my birthday and this weekend, all bets are off! (25 again? Sure! Why not? ;)

(3) Order the Vivid Rich Autumn color palette and create a capsule wardrobe that includes vivid autumn colors and incorporates what I am learning in my Fashion Feng Shui class.

I am doing well with this one and am especially pleased with what I have, so far, that supports what I am learning in my FFS class.

So, I think we're gonna go with "2 out of 3 ain't bad!"

How did you do this week?

What Would You Wear?

A week or so ago, Melaina at Transatlantic Blonde posted about going to a rock concert to see her favorite band. She asked who we would want to see and which old song we would be looking forward to hearing.

Prince was my first thought! And the song I would want to hear would be "When Doves Cry."

But you know what other blast from the past concert I would want to see? The Captain and Tenille. Yep, that's right! And this is what I would most want to hear...

Whose concert would you want to go to if you got the chance? Any other guilty pleasure confessions?

But here's the most important question: what would you wear? I still remember the sundress I wore to the afternoon sit-down Captain & Tenille concert I went to when I was around 11 years old. Would I want to wear something equally sweet & comfortable? Probably...

Love Will Keep us Together

June Goals: Making Progress, Still Working on it!

(1) Read my attachment parenting book and choose the first things I want to try as a way of strengthening my relationship with my son.

I haven't yet gotten back to it. I think I read a chapter before making this a goal but none since then.

(2) Create 5 or 6 healthier meals and try each one, spending the time with my son cooking them. My goal in general is to cook at least one meal together each day and I am sort of weaving these two goals together.

Well, we have been cooking a few meals together and that has been fun, and they have been somewhat healthier. Still working on this one, though!

(3) Order the Vivid Rich Autumn color palette and create a capsule wardrobe that includes vivid autumn colors and incorporates what I am learning in my Fashion Feng Shui class.

I did order the palette but haven't gotten it yet. And I'm beginning to think about what a capsule wardrobe would look like. How's this for an inspiration pic? :)

Kick It Up a Notch with Red & Orange!

Red and Orange Inspiration

Great idea, right? But I have to admit, after my own experimentation, that not all red-and-orange combinations are created equal! Here's my take on it...

The first one was such an overpowering combo, I cropped most of the orange out of the picture! But I love the second outfit. I bought several jackets in different colors from Fresh Produce, and I think I'm in love.

What strange, new color combinations have you tried (or will you try)?

I am linking up today with Lindsey at The Pleated Poppy for What I Wore Wednesday...
