Post-Oscar Recap: Maya Rudolph

Maya Rudolph, daughter of Minnie Riperton ("loving you is easy 'cause you're beautiful!" ~pardon my singing), actress on Up All Night and in Bridesmaids, and alumni of Saturday Night Live was kind of a color analysis test case for me.

Every time I come across a woman of color who is very light-skinned, and I didn't know she was a woman of color until I found out who her mama was, so that's pretty light, I eagerly do their color analysis to see if maybe, just maybe, I'll have found a light spring or a light summer. So far, that has not happened. And not this time, either!

Maya Rudolph is a soft autumn leaning warm. Very warm. If she were paying me to do her color analysis, I'd ask for more pictures and have her drape herself because she is that close to warm autumn. But the fullness of warm autumn colors seems to be too much for her, so I believe it's a just a lean in and soft autumn is better.

And here she is on the red carpet looking beautiful. In spite of her gown. I just don't like it, myself. What do you think?

But aside from that, is the color of her gown in her color palette? Well, this is a warm autumn color, and it's a wee bit much for her.

She almost gets away with it because of the color of her hair, which I don't believe is her natural hair color, but which helps to support it. And her makeup helps, too. I find myself looking from the gown to her face, but not all at once.

Post-Oscar Recap: Maya Rudolph

What do you think? Is the olive better or the purple?

I'm posting this at The Pleated Poppy for What I Wore Wednesday. Check it out for great style ideas!

Warm Autumn:“This woman never pretends. She won’t say something just to flatter you unless she believes it to be true. She cries harder than anyone at a funeral. She is fiercely loyal to her family but will not spare them hard work or spoil them with extravagance. She may seem to absorb a lot of demands but when she draws the line at enough, everyone knows it.” ~~Christine Scaman, 12 Blueprints

Deep Autumn:"Sensible and straightforward as all Autumns, but direct in speech, and quick to absorb change with good evidence, they speak honestly and bluntly. What I love most, I believe, is that they are not one bit threatened or defensive about new ideas. The person may demonstrate more of Winter’s reserve, or more of Autumn’s passive and natural way, but there is always an element of fire." ~~Christine Scaman, 12 Blueprints

  1. I really like the olive color for her! That's an awesome dress you found! You should be a stylist to the stars ~ they would look amazing if you were dressing them!

Btw, I might want you to help me figure my season out too ~ I just can't figure myself out! Lol! I think I might be a light summer or light spring but really have no clue!

    1. Thanks!! It would be fun to dress them, but I'm sure the Hollywood pressure would totally stress me out, dahling. :)

Ooh, B., I would love to help you figure out your season!

  2. I like the olive dress better for her too, and it is especially clear in the top photo with all of that color so near her face. So many times gowns show more skin around the face -- and maybe then the color doesn't need to be so perfect. In the photo of her from the back, where the dress is low cut and there is all that lace, the "wrong" color doesn't stand out as much.

Thanks again for doing these color analysis of celebs -- it is a great way to learn more about this!

    1. Thanks, Ann! I think you're right, and image consultants say that if you simply must wear the wrong color, get it away from your face and offset it by showing lots of skin. :)

      You're welcome! I've had a blast.

  3. I think the purple washes her out a bit! The olive looks great! Did you see Maya Rudolph on Saturday night live? Is she prego? She looked like it on the show, but not so much in this gown.

    1. Hi Tiffany! I agree, it does. Thanks!! No, I missed it. Now you have me curious, though. Could she have managed to conceal it? Guess we'll know soon enough.
