Post-Oscar Recap: Octavia Spencer

Wasn't it wonderful to see Octavia Spencer win the Academy Award for her role in The Help? And what a moving acceptance speech!

But what did you think of her outfit? Was she true to her season as a deep autumn?

Although I would have loved to see her in even more color, she did look beautiful, don't you think? And you can see here that she did wear a deep autumn color from the deep autumn color palette.

But what about these colors? What do you think?

Warm Autumn:“This woman never pretends. She won’t say something just to flatter you unless she believes it to be true. She cries harder than anyone at a funeral. She is fiercely loyal to her family but will not spare them hard work or spoil them with extravagance. She may seem to absorb a lot of demands but when she draws the line at enough, everyone knows it.” ~~Christine Scaman, 12 Blueprints

Deep Autumn:"Sensible and straightforward as all Autumns, but direct in speech, and quick to absorb change with good evidence, they speak honestly and bluntly. What I love most, I believe, is that they are not one bit threatened or defensive about new ideas. The person may demonstrate more of Winter’s reserve, or more of Autumn’s passive and natural way, but there is always an element of fire." ~~Christine Scaman, 12 Blueprints

  1. Her dress was gorgeous!! And I love that it had sleeves! You don't see that very often on the runway! Lol! But I agree color on her would have been stunning as well!

    1. Hey B.! I agree, it was awesomesauce. Those design lines were SO flattering. It makes me happy that she was able to find something so perfect! But yeah, if it came in a deeper color, that would have been even better.

  2. I loved the cut of her dress -- so incredibly elegant. I think she may have been playing it safe with such a neutral color (although lovely). I sometimes feel bad for these celebrities whose red carpets looks are picked over and scrutinized, even mocked. I would play it safe too!

I am having a crisis in my own season choice and have been dressing as a light spring (instead of light summer) for a few weeks. I feel so much better. I was thinking of some of your past posts and how you narrowed down your season -- your ideas have been helpful to me.

    1. Ann, I have never seen you but I have to tell you that I have had a feeling that you were a light spring all along. Not sure why, but that's what I thought!

Must be VERY close, though, and I'm glad some of my ideas have helped you. I still do it, myself, because I think I lean deep and then some evidence suggests I lean more toward warm spring, so I compare again. For me, it doesn't matter that much because I am absolutely certain of warm autumn as the main thing. But it's amazing how you can still want to get it exactly right!

I understand what you mean about playing it safe. I also wonder if sometimes, they don't have enough to choose from or run out of time.

    2. Hi Ann, do you have a blog? I'm always looking for fellow Light Springs :-D

    3. That would be a great way to get feedback, too, Ann, if you're at all interested in it.

And Lili, I wondered if she had one, too! She has been such a great blog friend and commenter that it makes me want to go visit her, too!

  3. I just wanted to clarify that when I was speaking about scrutinizing red carpet looks, I was referring to the catty comments on shows like The Fashion Police, and in magazines like "Us," etc. I certainly did not mean blogs like this one!

    1. Oh I took no offense! And I actually don't usually do it but I saw other style blogs doing it and I thought, "oh, here's an idea!" Not so much to be nasty about it, but just to ask if they honored their seasons. For the most part, it looks like they did!

  4. I agree with you, one of the reds from your picture would have been absolutely amazing on her. Maybe next time, I have a feeling she's going to be around for a while :-)

    1. Hi Nnenna! It certainly did fit her beautifully!! I completely agree with you.

  6. Jeanine, I agree that the dress is stunning but would have been more stunning on her in a deep autumn red or gold. The white really sits "on" her, no harmony with her colouring.

    1. Hi Barbara! Oh, you're right, gold would have been stunning, too. Thanks for so much for weighing in!
