Seasonal Color Analysis: Are You a Clear Summer?

Seasonal Color Analysis: Introducing Clear Summer...

This season would have influence from both spring and winter, so if you took my seasonal color analysis quiz and your highest score was for summer but your second highest was for spring or winter, and the summer color palettes don’t seem to support you enough, consider this new season.

You would need more brightness and color intensity than cool summer, less depth and intensity than clear winter (lighter colors), and less contrast than a winter season would need. So light and bright colors but low-medium contrast.

To compare, this is a true azure summer color palette from Color Alliance...

Below are examples of a possible color palette from my playing around on Polyvore and the bright summer example from the book Uniquely You by Betty Nethery.

Seasonal Color Analysis: Celebrity Clear Summers ...

I do not yet know of any celebrity clear summers who are women of color. I think this is a less likely category for women of color, but that doesn't mean there aren't any. Let me know if you are a woman of color who thinks she might be a clear summer. I'd love to see what you look like!

Warm Autumn:“This woman never pretends. She won’t say something just to flatter you unless she believes it to be true. She cries harder than anyone at a funeral. She is fiercely loyal to her family but will not spare them hard work or spoil them with extravagance. She may seem to absorb a lot of demands but when she draws the line at enough, everyone knows it.” ~~Christine Scaman, 12 Blueprints

  1. These sure are happy colors! LOVE these! Would you say these correspond well to the T1's of the world? And I'm curious how you feel this coloring system works or doesn't work with DYT? :D

  2. Hi B.! Generally speaking, T1s would be springs, 2s would be summers, 3s would be autumns and 4s would be winters. And then, they would have to figure out, if they wanted to, which spring they were, or which summer, etc.

Although I am sure she would say there are no hard and fast rules about color, Carol has said that springs and autumns are warm, and summers and winters are cool. These colors are decidedly cool, so I don't think they would work for T1s. And when I held up the T1 card, it didn't seem to harmonize.

  3. Hmm. That's interesting. I think all this color business is fascinating. I will have to pull out my card to look at these because on my monitor they seem T1 to me. Maybe I just don't have "the eye" for seeing the cool or warm undertones. LOL!

  4. Well, they are bright, that's for sure, and in that sense, they are T1. Because T1 is bright. But these are bright cool and T1 is bright warm.

There might be one or two in the pic that are warmer than I thought, but for the most part, they are cool.

  5. Hi Jeanine , hope the new year treats you well so far!
I am in the same thinking as B was about the colours for bright summer beeing plausable for a T1. My first thougt When I read about this new system of colour I felt, that is the answer for me! Becouse I was analyzed a summer as you know, and then again in DYT found myself beeing a T1, confusion. But I can see in my styleguide from DYT both warm and cool...
I would say the description for this new clear summer is much simular to what I understand is T1.. And I really think that the pics you show are as B says, happy colours! :-)

    1. Hi Inga! Good to hear from you!! You may be right, these may be similar to the cooler colors on the T1 color card, but it didn't seem that way to me when I held them up. If it feels right to you, though, give them a try and see what you think. And then let me know. :)

  7. Wow this is a beautiful palette I wear many of these colors already. I am noticing the coral/peaches in this palette which is interesting because I thought those were springs? I guess I was wrong. This will open alot of doors for some women I am sure.

    1. Well, as long as they are cool, which would be something you would want to watch for, yes, you could wear those colors as a clear summer.

  8. Thank you so much for this palette, I was between cool summer and bright winter (or a bright soft summer, that is not possible) and I like these colors. Is it possible to have more informations about a clear summer style ? (clear summer celebrities for example, even if they are not women of color, other colors of the palette, jewelry, shoes...? ) because nobody else talk about this season :(

    1. Hey there! Well, I am not sure of who the celebs would be but I know several other women who felt like cool summer wasn't quite right, but neither was clear winter. I'm glad it fits for you!

    1. I am just seeing this! Sorry!! Don't know how I missed it. But that blue looks great on her, doesn't it? She might be a clear summer, but she also might be too warm for summer. I'd need to see a lot more of her pictures to figure that out. She could be a clear something-else. Thanks for pointing her out to me!

    1. No problem! If you do buy it, let me know what you think. I have to say that the only thing I really found helpful in the book was the color picture section. But that was worth it to me, since I bought the book used, anyway.
