Creating a Fall Capsule Wardrobe: A Month of Warm Autumn, Part 2

In last week's post, we identified the first steps to creating a month of outfits by building a wardrobe capsule: identifying your season and choosing a few colors to build your wardrobe capsule with that will flatter your coloring.

Once you have identified the colors you want to use from your seasonal color palette and you have identified what you have in those colors, already, you're ready to start building your fall capsule.

Creating Your Fall Signature Style...

Start creating your fall signature style with as few as six pieces: two shirts, two pairs of pants, a ¾-sleeve cardigan and a dress or skirt, all in colors that mix and match well together. Add more as you are able to do so.

Go slowly as you add to your capsule wardrobe. You can always add more when you can and if you take your time, you can pay attention to how each piece looks and feels, so you will know if it is really working for you or not.

A Fall Capsule Wardrobe that Keeps Your Lifestyle in Mind...

Here are two ways you might plan for a wardrobe capsule based on your lifestyle...

(1) Work Capsule: you might want to have one pantsuit, one skirt suit, a blouse and a shirt with a print or combination of your two colors.

(2) Casual Capsule: you might want to choose cardigans instead of jackets and jeans or cargo pants instead of dressier ones.

How Many Pieces for a Month of Outfits?...

How many pieces do you need for your fall capsule wardrobe? Well, I mentioned that you can start with as few as six, but for a month of outfits, I would suggest 10-20 pieces (or more, if you'd like).

Here's a chance to practice. In this example, how many different outfits could you put together? What if you added more accessories? How many more pieces would you need?

Warm Autumn:“This woman never pretends. She won’t say something just to flatter you unless she believes it to be true. She cries harder than anyone at a funeral. She is fiercely loyal to her family but will not spare them hard work or spoil them with extravagance. She may seem to absorb a lot of demands but when she draws the line at enough, everyone knows it.” ~~Christine Scaman, 12 Blueprints
